This program aims at empowering the communities to improve the nutritional status of maternal, infant and young child.


Initiated in 1995 as a pilot in 12 communities in the LRD and now has national coverage.

Eight (8) community representatives, 5 women and 3 men, selected by the villagers are trained as Village Support Groups (VSGs)

Communities helped construct 10 baby rest houses.

VSGs are trained on the following:

Maternal nutrition, Infant and young child nutrition, Environmental sanitation and Community based growth monitoring.

At present (2006) 2015 VSGs from 263 communities have been trained and are implementing the program.
