The National Nutrition Agency (NaNA) in partnership with the Department of Community Development and the Directorate of Social Welfare conducts Training of Facilitators for the Positive Playful Parenting Program (PPP) in The Gambia Rise Project intervention regions.
The Executive Director of NaNA, Mr Malang N. Fofana During his visit to the training sites described the PPP Program as a crucial initiative to strengthen the relationship between children and caregivers in order to build the cognitive development of children. The program he added is also aimed at ensuring that households have the required knowledge, skills, competence and the enabling environment for every child to realise their full potentials.
During his deliberations in Nioro Jataba, Mr Fofana disclosed the selection criteria of the facilitators whose responsibility after the training is to conduct fourth nightly training sessions with the caregivers to enhance the effectiveness of the program and efficiency of the caregivers. Mr. Fofana also recognized the multisectoral nature of the program, thus, he acknowledged the efforts of all the implementing partners, stakeholders and the development partner i.e. The World Bank.
Mr. Abdou Aziz Ceesay, The Director of Social and Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC), described PPP as a strategy to strengthen the foundational structure of households, therefore, the first phase, which begins roll out of the ‘Nafa’ program of the project intervention regions is very critical in setting the pace for the implementation of the next phase.
Various speakers at different training sites including officials of the Department of Community Development (DCD), Directorate of Social Welfare (DSW), ChildFund the Gambia and the facilitators described the PPP program as laudable and also assured their commitment to the successful implementation of the PPP Program.
