In 2021, the Nafa Program of the Social Safety Net Project (SSNP) started implementation in the 20 poorest Districts of The Gambia with a pilot phase in the 3 Districts of Foni Bintang, Nianija and Wuli West. This started with:

1. Social Registry data collection

2. Application of Proxy Means Test (PMT)

3. Community Validation exercise

4. Beneficiary enrollment and

5. Three (3) successful rounds of D3000 cash transfers.

As part of the rollout process to the remaining 17 other poorest Districts, capacity building activities on Nafa Social and Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC) and Community Mobilization (CM) have been successfully completed. This targeted the Central, Regional as well as Multidisciplinary Facilitation Teams (MDFTs). As a result, sensitization activities for the community members on the SSNP is currently underway in the remaining 17 poorest Districts. The sensitisations started Monday 07th and will run till Wednesday 16th March 2022 in all the SSNP implementing regions, i.e. West Coast Region (WCR), Lower River Region (LRR), North Bank Region (NBR), Central River Region (CRR) and Upper River Region (URR), respectively. The purpose of the Nafa Community Sensitization is to inform all community members on the SSNP and operational modalities, thus reducing potential grievances and subsequently enhance the anticipated community validation process preceeding beneficiary enrolment and Cash Transfers.
